SpinLab Ambassador Armenia: David Duru

As SpinLab is looking for new interesting startups to join our 11th class, we are expanding our network also to the near East. We found a brand ambassador, helping us connect with the local startup ecosystem, whom we want to introduce in the following interview. Please meet David:

Could you please give me a short introduction to yourself? What are you doing besides being a SpinLab ambassador?

My name is David Duru and am a certified as IHK industrial clerk and business economist. In my main job, I work for Chorus Call. This company provides services in the telecommunications sector worldwide (web and telephone conferences). My hobbies are stock trading, poultry breeding and cycling. I was born in Germany and speak the bible language Aramaic as mother tongue.

How does the Startup scene in Armenia look? Did it change in the past years?

The start-up scene has developed dynamically. In terms of potential, I would describe the region as Israel’s little sister. During the Soviet Union, Armenia was a leader in technological patents. Currently, the USA is already the most important tech investor in Armenia, which can also be seen in the number of Armenian companies which headquartered in the USA. From German perspective, TeamViewer opened a R&D Center in Yerevan.

As a SpinLab ambassador, how does your day like look? / What do you do as a SpinLab ambassador?

As a SpinLab ambassador every day is different. After all, we have every day with new founders, ideas and markets as a new case in hand.

In my role as a networker I have a close exchange with startups and corporations. Essentially I see myself as a bridge builder between German and Armenian founders and investors.

Why are you a part of the community? What is in for you?

I believe in bringing people and ideas together. My think tank P-A-G-O benefits by bringing startups together with accelerators.
